Heat gain reduction and cooling energy minimization through building envelope material

This study aims to reduce heat gain and minimise cooling energy through building envelope material as a passive design intervention strategy achieve thermal comfort. Integrated Learning Building in the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, is used case due its air conditioning setting. First, characteristic calculated using Overall Thermal Transmission Value (OTTV) calculation determine EDGE (Excellence Design for Greater Efficiencies), software estimate consumption. Then, performed by adding insulation (polyester, bagasse, recycled textile paper) substituting window glazing (reflective, PVB laminated, Clear IGU Low-E). The results show that combination paper clear Low-E has an OTTV value 24.89 W/m2 which lower than standard Indonesia (35 W/m2). Meanwhile, usage shows consumption 1.14% lower, but it did not 5% reduction target. Therefore, further on other parts envelope, such roof floor, should be observed higher energy-saving potential.
